LAKE Y Swimming
Into The Blue
Open-water swimming in a private, beautifully filtered freshwater lake, surrounded by the open landscape of South Yorkshire.
The lake is at the heart of Lake Y. In summer, the water is inviting and clear; in winter, it takes on a different character entirely. Whether you're building endurance, starting your open-water journey or simply enjoy the feeling of swimming outdoors,
our dedicated swim sessions offer space to move at your own pace.
Swim your way
Lake Y offers two marked swim courses, designed for different levels and
distances:
200m Short Course
A manageable loop for shorter swims, building confidence or keeping things
moving.
400m Long Course
A longer course for those looking to build endurance and settle into a more
sustained open-water swim.
All swimming sessions are scheduled throughout the year, with live availability
available to members when booking.

What you need to swim
Wetsuit or swimwear
You can swim in a swimming-specific wetsuit or standard swimwear (“skins”).
Tow float
If swimming in standard swimwear, a tow float is mandatory and can be purchased on site.
Brightly coloured swim cap
A visible swim cap is required for all swimmers. Orange, bright green, yellow or pink are accepted and caps are available to purchase at reception if needed.
Swimming-specific wetsuit
If wearing a wetsuit, it must be designed specifically for open-water swimming. Tow floats are not required when swimming in a wetsuit.
No equipment? No problem.
Swimming-specific wetsuit hire is available at Lake Y, subject to availability. We recommend reserving one in advance.
£6 per swim
Member swimming sessions are £6 for a two-hour session.
Sessions run at scheduled times throughout the year and must be booked in advance.
Lake Y is a private members’ club, so swimming is reserved for members and eligible Trial Pass holders.
Trial Pass holders pay the applicable non-member activity rate.
Swim, then stay a while
An open-water swim at Lake Y is only the beginning. Warm up, take your time and head to The Wheelhouse for coffee, something to eat or a drink overlooking the lake. Or pair your swim with time in the Sunken Sauna for the ultimate hot-and-cold reset.
Swim. Sauna. Slow down.
New to open water?
You don't need to be an experienced open-water swimmer to start.
Lake Y offers beginner open-water swimming workshops, designed to introduce you to the lake and build confidence in the water.
The long course also requires swimmers to demonstrate their open-water competence through a short swim assessment before accessing it.
