Accessibility

01 About this statement

Lake Y is an outdoor resort built around a lake. Some of it is accessible today. Some of it is not.

This statement covers the resort, the website and the Lake Y app. It is written to be read before a visit, so that members and guests can plan, ask, or decide not to come.

Where a facility is not accessible, we say so and say what we are doing about it. Section 13 lists what is missing.

If your requirements are not covered here, contact us before you visit and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

02 Getting here and parking

ACCESSIBLE PARKING

There are two accessible bays in the main car park. Parking is complimentary.

Distances from the accessible bays

TO                                                               APPROXIMATE DISTANCE

Reception                                           80m

The Wheelhouse                               100m

The lake                                               110m

No route is stepped or steep, and there is no alternative route needed. There are currently no seating or rest points along these paths.

AFTER DARK

The site is lit. The resort is open until 10pm Sunday to Thursday and 10.30pm Friday and Saturday.

03 Arrival and entry

Members enter using a QR code in the Lake Y app. The reader is at a height reachable from a wheelchair.

If you cannot use a smartphone, there is a buzzer at the entrance. Press it and a member of the team will let you in.

A carer or companion can be issued their own entry method rather than relying on the member's code.

04 Moving around the site

Lake Y has surfaced footpaths and roads that take a wheelchair or mobility scooter.

Off the paths, grassed areas can become boggy in wet weather and are not reliable for wheeled access.

The Wheelhouse has no steps and double doors at the entrance. Because of the space inside, we ask that mobility scooters are left outside.

05 Toilets and changing

ACCESSIBLE TOILET

There is an accessible toilet in the main toilet block, to the rear of The Wheelhouse.

ACCESSIBLE CHANGING

There is no accessible changing room on site at present. One is planned as part of the gym, which opens in early 2027.

CHANGING PLACES

There is no Changing Places facility with a height-adjustable bench and hoist at present. One is planned as part of the gym, which opens in early 2027.

ACCESSIBLE SHOWERS

There are no accessible showers at present.

06 The lake and water activities

The lake is the centre of the resort, and it is the part of Lake Y where access is most limited.

REACHING THE WATER

A wheelchair user can reach the beach. The water's edge itself is not currently reachable by wheelchair.

ENTERING THE WATER

Accessible entry to the water is available with supervision from the water safety team. There is no self-entry route.

OPEN WATER SWIMMING

Open water swimming can be adapted. It requires a carer and the alternative access route above, arranged with the swim team in advance.

LAKE DIPS

Lake dips cannot currently be adapted.

PADDLEBOARDING AND SUP YOGA

Paddleboarding and SUP Yoga are not currently available in an adapted form.

EQUIPMENT

Accessible equipment, including beach wheelchairs, is planned. It is not available yet.

07  Activities

All activities at Lake Y go through a risk assessment process. The table below sets out what that process has concluded so far.

ACTIVITY                                                               ACCESSIBLE

Open water swimming                             Yes, adapted — see section 6

Paddleboarding and SUP Yoga              No

Classes

Yoga, Mat Pilates and Y-FIT can be adapted. Speak to us before booking so the instructor knows in advance.

Station 1

Station 1 is an outdoor training station. It is separate from the gym.

The Sunken Sauna

The sauna is not accessible, and a carer cannot accompany someone into it. It is for members aged 17 and over.

The gym

The gym opens in early 2027 and is for Gym & Resort Members aged 16 and over. This statement will be updated with its accessibility before it opens.

08 Carers and companions

Where an activity has been assessed as accessible, a one-to-one carer is admitted free of charge. The activities this currently covers are open water swimming and padel.

PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY

A carer card is sufficient. A PIP letter is accepted but not required. Send proof to enquiries@lake-y.co.uk with a contact number.

GUEST PASSES

A carer does not count against your six annual guest passes.

WHAT FREE CARER ACCESS COVERS

Free carer access covers entry to the resort. It does not currently include the activity itself.

CARER MEMBERSHIP

A carer must hold a Lake Y membership.

09 Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas of Lake Y, including areas where other dogs are not permitted.

If you have specific requirements, contact us before your visit.

10  Quiet spaces and sensory needs

There is a quiet space available if you need to step away from a busy area. Ask at reception.

We can tell you which times of day are quieter. Contact us before booking and we will point you at them.

A visual guide to arriving at Lake Y — what the entrance looks like, where to go, what to expect — is in preparation.

HEARING LOOPS

There is no hearing loop at reception or in The Wheelhouse.

11 Website and app

THE STANDARD WE ARE WORKING TO

We are working towards WCAG 2.2 Level AA for the website and the Lake Y app.

Neither has been independently audited. We know of specific problems on the current site, including insufficient colour contrast on the header logo. The new website and app are being built to the standard above, and accessibility is an acceptance criterion for the app rather than a later fix.

MAKING TEXT LARGER

Press CTRL and plus or minus, or Command and plus or minus on a Mac. Text size can also be changed in the View menu of most browsers.

On a phone or tablet, pinch to zoom. Further options are in your device's own accessibility settings.

12  Alternative formats

Any document on this site — this statement, the resort policies, the membership pack — can be provided in large print or an easy read version.

Ask at reception or email enquiries@lake-y.co.uk.
